The Governing Body of The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School is an integral part of our leadership structure, enabling strategic direction, robust accountability, assurance and oversight of the financial and educational performance of the school. Governors work collaboratively with the Headteacher, school staff, Diocese of Lancaster and Lancashire County Council to realise the Mission Statement of the school.

Whilst the Headteacher is responsible for the day to day management of the school, the Governing Body has an important strategic oversight in three core areas:

Setting Strategic Direction

  • Clarity of vision and ethos

  • Engaging stakeholders

  • Ensuring statutory duties are met

Ensuring Accountability

  • Accountability for teaching, achievement, behaviours and safety

  • Strengthening and supporting school leadership

  • Performance managing the Headteacher

  • Contributing to school self-evaluation

Maintaining Financial Probity

  • Enabling financial efficiency

  • Monitoring resources and challenging budgets.

GOVERNORS INFORMATION

The governors are volunteers who have a commitment to the school, its pupils, staff and buildings as well as to the local community, of which it is a part. We are all proud to be associated with The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School.

The Full Governing Board meets at least three times a year and is responsible for overseeing the progress and improvement of the school. In this, we are helped and guided by our experienced Head Teacher Miss Hannah and her staff.  We have three working committees which deal with the detailed business such as; monitoring school finances, planning structural developments and analysing the overall performance of the school. All governors are members of at least one of these committees.

Our Governing Board membership is a mixture of foundation representatives, elected parents, school staff and Local Authority nominees. As a board, it embraces a varied and relevant range of skills and expertise. We have Governors with business and management experience, experience in education, finance and governors who are standing members of the local community.

As Governors we constantly seek ways of working more effectively and to make use of training courses to help gain a deeper understanding and knowledge base to fulfil our roles and duty to the school.

In the past year under the leadership of our Head of School, Miss Kelly Hannah, everyone at the school has worked very hard to improve the quality of all aspects of school life. Staff and pupils have coped admirably with disruptions scattered across the school year. The children have learnt and played well. The governors and I congratulate the staff and children and parents for all their hard work and resilience.

The governors look forward to continuing to play their part in the life of The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School in the coming school year. The board is committed to supporting the Head Teacher and her staff in their continuing drive to raise standards in the school and to provide the best education for all of our children.

We currently have vacancies for a Foundation Governor. If you are interested in becoming a governor, please see the advert above and contact Miss Hannah at school.

Mrs Lesley-Ann Stickley

Vice-Chair of Governors / Local Authority Governor

I am married and have two sons, both of them attended this school. The eldest is now at University and the other is at Cardinal Newman College. I am also actively involved within our community one of which is being part of the school Toddler Group. I initially became a parent governor in June 2009 as I wanted to play an active part in my children's education, and the education of all of the children at the school. Within the time of myself being a governor, the school has made visible improvements and achievements. I am looking forward, to see our school's continuing progress and to improve the quality of all aspects of school life.

Mr Jimmy Callagher

Foundation Governor

I joined the Governor team in 2020. My sister is a teacher at the school and I have seen the passion and desire the teaching staff have for the school and the education of it's pupils. I am a Recruitment Consultant for Teaching Personnel and previously worked as a Teacher, I want to offer my support as a Foundation Governor utilising my experience in education settings. I am impressed by the direction the school is going in and excited for the future of the school.
