Year 1 have been looking at shadows this week and thinking about how our shadows change throughout the day.  We enjoyed drawing around our shadows and playing shadow tig.

Congratulations to 5Sacrament for winning our ‘What is it?’ Competition during Science week. Thank you for all the entries to the poster competition. As you can see from the photograph the entries were fantastic. The overall winner was Hrithik.

In Year 1 we have been learning about the United Kingdom. We have been learning about the names of the countries and features of their capital cities. To help with our learning we have made messy maps to show landmarks in the different cities.  Super work Year 1!

Both Year 1 classes have enjoyed a trip to Blackpool Zoo this week. We loved observing the animals and discussing their similarities and differences.  We heard lots of animal noises too including chattering monkeys, baking sea lions and roaring lions. In Year 1 we have been learning about what happens to animals in Winter. We found out that some animals hibernate during the cold Winter months.  It can be difficult for birds to find food during Winter so we have made bird feeders from pine cones, lard and seeds.  Next week we will be spotting…

Year 1 enjoyed a visit to Church to look at the Nativity scene.  They were very knowledgeable about the story of Jesus’ birth and their behaviour in Church was impeccable. Well done Year 1.

Year 1 have been doing some of their learning outside this week. We have enjoyed comparing the lengths and heights of different objects. We have loved acting out ‘Room on the broom’ which is the story we are reading in English this week.
