What a lovely start to Year 1 we have had!

Your children have worked so hard and really made a positive start in their new class. Enjoy your week at home and I shall look forward to seeing them after the break.

We have finished our learning about materials i year 1 this week. We will revisit parts of this over the year to keep our learning fresh in our minds.

This week we used a variety of materials to find out which ones are absorbent. We had great fun doing this!

Last week we learnt about keeping our teeth clean.

We used tooth brushes and talked about how often we should brush our teeth and why it is so important. Let’s keep brushing!

Today we talked a lot about our mental health to acknowledge World Mental Health Day. We discussed ways we can look after our thoughts and feelings. 

We made a yellow wrist band to remind us to think about ours and others mental health. We watched a video of doodling and how that can help…

Design Technology is a favourite lesson for lots of the class. We used our skills of joining and strengthening to make a chair for a teddy.

We had to work in a small group, so we had to talk and listen to each other to make a plan.

What a great time we had in the library! We all chose a book that looked interesting and used our phonic knowledge to read. Next, we enjoyed a story called Billy’s Bucket!
 

We have been busy looking at and handling a variety of materials to work out what they are. We also looked at a variety of objects to decide what they are made of. Science in year 1 is very “hands on” and we all love exploring!

Year 1 have been really busy in English lessons over the last two weeks. We have learnt and performed, to nursery, the rhyme, "Hickory Dickory Dock."

Next, we changed the rhyme to include our favourite animal and then had a go, on our own, at writing our new version.

Year 1 Sacrament went to find our class tree! We will be watching how our tree (a common lime) changes over the year! The children had great ideas of what may happen!

Lovely listening during PE today. We have been improving our skills of hopping, jumping and skipping and learning how to do an under arm throw.

We investigated a variety of materials as a start to our new science topic. We had an interesting discussion about what things are made of!
